Why should people vote for me?
Right now Geelong needs someone who’s prepared to be tough, but we also need manners and professionalism around that. Being a strong leader is about being clever AND kind, ruthless AND fair. I understand how to strike the balance and I understand the people and issues involved.
Even more importantly, I am a positive person who speaks openly and clearly. Geelong needs a positive push and the standards need to be lifted around how things are done and how council’s work is communicated. The people still want a fresh, positive and professional approach. I can deliver on all counts.
What will be my first priority if elected?
Several priorities: firstly congratulating genuine candidates and seeking their interest in continued involvement to promote the Geelong region. Campaigning is a tough process: their knowledge and passion should not be wasted.
Next, the community needs the opportunity to comment on council’s performance, so formally researching community expectations is critical. Similarly, understanding each councillor’s expectations is the basis for good teamwork: these should be aligned with community needs.
Finally, review the City Plan to set SMART goals and measure performance against strategy. People deserve to see the mayor getting organised and activating Geelong, so sharing the experience with media is fundamental.
